Editor's Note: The shuttle is docked with the ISS. This morning, the astronauts are taking a call from President Obama. The shuttle is scheduled to bring Dr. Magnus home Saturday.
We have been watching Expedition 18 with great interest.
Our 5 year old daughter, Abigail, became interested in NASA about a year ago, and we have followed along with her, providing opportunity to learn, whenever we can. We have read mountains of books, watched videos, (our favorite is the Big Space Shuttle), visited Air and Space museums, and she plays with her NASA accurate toys and wears her flight suits everywhere. We are astounded by her interest, knowledge, and understanding. Space is interesting, but it is the NASA space program and it's astronauts that really captivate her, for some reason. Because of her interest, my husband, Jeff, and I have learned a lot and have become deeply interested as well, so it seemed logical to trek down to FL for the STS-126 launch last November. Wow! It was really exciting to be a part of that, in person.
After the excitement of that, and the fascinating visit to KSC, we knew we'd be back.
We have just returned from Titusville, having watched the STS-119 launch, where we enjoyed a longer vacation than we planned, due to the delays. lol! We were secretly glad though, because we love KSC so much. I can't brag on that place enough.
We are struck by the amazing opportunity we all have today, to feel a part of the space program. The effort, by NASA, to include, educate, and entertain is so appreciated. We keep NASA TV up all of the time, in our kitchen, so we feel we are right there with all of you.
We'll miss seeing you up there, but we'll continue to follow your career. You are a wonderful role model for our daughter and for that we thank you. I hope she'll get a chance to meet you someday. Heck, I'd like to meet you myself!
